Notification to all members! Closed doubles tournament
After the league towards the end of
the year in October, Belgrave committee plans to stage a closed
doubles tournament (running over two weekends) where we encourage
all to enter. The purpose of this tournament is to establish some
kind of ladder for doubles which will facilitate the future
selection of league teams. Watch this space for more details.
League
The Men’s/Ladies league will start on Saturday, 24 July 2010. Please send André van Rijn an e-mail at Andre@MCTennis.co.za to say if you are available for league or not. Social Calendar Please diarize the following dates. The Social committee has laid on not one but two events. Make a note of them - put them in your digital diary, tell your PA or just mark them on your normal calendar, whatever that is.
23 October - end of year function. Further particulars to follow. If you want to see a Photoshop picture of yourself on the website - be at both events. Ladies Day Doubles Tournament Can
you believe it, it is almost time for the Ladies Day Doubles Tournament. It is
to be played on 9th of August 2010 and the entry form is available at the click
of your mouse button.
World cup Braai 17 July 2010
On 17 July Belgrave social club celebrated the end of the World Cup with a braai after the tennis. The courts and the clubhouse looked very festive because of all the flags that Elsabè had acquired. After the meal, the party really got going. There was dancing on the counter (“Wave the flag” song played repeatedly), Andre demonstrated his passion for the Dutch soccer team, Anmarie and Andre even performed some chiropractic manoeuvres on Manfred, whilst Elsabe added an unusual touch with the paper lantern (in red and yellow honouring Spain) which was lit and floated away into the evening sky,
Some visitors to Belgrave and those from
other clubs (eg Amanda) agreed that Belgrave members certainly know how to
enjoy themselves
The World Cup comes to Belgrave and South Africa
Some Argentines visited Belgrave in search of tennis and hospitality. They got both - members lent them racquets and welcomed them with open arms. Language was a problem, but the warmth was visible for all to see.
On the streets outside Belgrave, Anni and Carine posed with some Uruguay supporters - this was before we were trounced so we were still smiling. Carine and Sonja (Lynnwood club) were privileged to watch the match between Argentina and Korea at Soccer City. We desperately wanted to trade five Bafana players for one Messi.
BIENVENIDO !! Valentine's Day ON 13 February we had a Valentine's Day event, players dressed in red and white. Those who did not comply stuck out like a sore thumb (you Willy with the bright yellow!). That day turned out to be one of the hottest days ever but the advantage was that play continued till sunset which made sure that everyone could snack on the cakes, savouries and soup. The spirit was upbeat as usual and many partners/spouses joined the action and celebrated Valentines a day early.
The views expressed here are not necessarily those of the committee or any other sane person. |

The club has a new barman
and his wife,
they are doing and absolutely sterling job of keeping the clubhouse spick
and span. Come and witness the transformation.

Are you like the assistant webmaster,
too stingy to pay for coaching, but would still like to play like a champ,
not chump - that's easy??
